Collage

I was heavily inspired by Wanghechi Mutu and Geoffrey Farmer. I was inspired by Wanghechi when she said that her collages are very literally surgery. I felt through out my portrait that I was harvesting the best pieces I could find. It felt almost like stealing and taking what I believed to be useful. Everything in my self portrait is an indication of who I am. The dancing monks are a representation of my religion and how free my spirit is. The monkey is a symbol of a childhood nick name my dad had for me. The parrot represents how much i like to talk. the face cut in half shows how my mind is open to new ideas and the nature and butterflies represent flowing ideas. The crazy colours that are coming from the persons mouth shows how i am creative with my speech. The glasses i just enjoyed the look of them. In the bottom right you can see a man with a long hair and a half a face. This shows how i find gender to be very limiting. The women in the bottom left corner shows my appreciation for vintage and van Gogh as the coat she is wearing was stolen from a Van Gogh painting.
